look book: paisley pant party

I would definitely consider myself to be a dress girl. While I do love my comfy jeans, skirts and dresses are more me. However, in the effort to break out of some of my self-imposed fashion rules, I surprised myself by picking up a pair of paisley printed pants. They're fun and different and a little/a lot out of my comfort zone. Yet, I kind of love them and I'm already seeing multiple outfits I can wear with them. Hooray for spontaneity!

This beautiful blouse is from Jigsaw, one of my favorite boutiques. It's silky smooth and the perfect match for these pants.
Look out for a fun giveaway from them tomorrow!

Happy Thursday!

adventures in maui: north shore

Since Matthew and I stayed on the south side of the island we didn't travel up to the north shore as frequently but we did make a couple trips based around the food. My parents went to Maui earlier this year and came back with enough food recommendations to keep us busy the whole trip. One place we were dying to try was Flatbread Company, an all natural, wood-burning pizza place in Paia. Matthew, in particular, is a connoisseur of pizza pies so he needed to be the judge. Verdict: a big yummy hit! We also went on a long, wild, slightly life-threatening drive for the best banana bread in the world. I have to  say it was worth it though! On our final night we had an incredible dinner that thinking about it now makes my mouth water. We went to Mama's Fish House and ate our favorite meal on the island. It was a special dinner, celebrating our anniversary, and everyone in the restaurant was so sweet and congratulatory. We had a card at our table, the manager gave Matthew a lei to give to me, and everyone offered to take photos. The whole night felt perfect and slightly magical. Hawaii does have major charm! I'm looking forward to going back one day!

This last photo was taken on our last night in Maui, which also happened to be our one year anniversary
I'm so lucky to be married to this wonderful and handsome guy and grateful for the opportunity to travel to Hawaii to celebrate our special milestone.

Favorite Spots on the North Shore (Paia)

Hotels: Paia Inn- my parents stayed there and loved it. Also, right next to Flatbread Co., so convenient!
Casual Food: Flatbread Company- order 1/2 and 1/2 so you can try different ones, Ono GelatoJulia's Banana Bread- not in Paia, but in Kahakuloa (Northwestern part of island), Mana Foods- amazing health food store, great selection, comparable to Whole Foods
Nice Restaurants: Mama's Fish House- best.dinner.ever, expensive but worth it, fish caught by local fisherman and specified with name and location
Things to Do: Paia is a great little hippie town to walk around and explore. There are great clothing boutiques and quirky little shops. I wish we had more time here.

If you've been to Maui before and have a favorite spot I didn't mention, feel free to leave it in a comment below!
There's always next time :)

look book: honey punch

Color-blocking with fun, bright colors has been a nice trend for Spring. It's fun to pair things together that you wouldn't normally think of. This outfit is pretty preppy with the gingham button-up and the high-waisted shorts, but I loved adding these leopard sandals for an unexpected element.

This weekend went by so quickly. Partly because I spent most of Saturday in bed with the worst neck pain ever. I couldn't move my head in any direction. It was so miserable. Sunday I was feeling a lot better so Matthew and I spent most of the day looking for a new apartment. We're so sad to move out of our place, especially since we haven't even been here for a year. We were renting a privately-owned condo though, and the owners were foreclosed on. The bank has upheld our lease for the last 6 months of our lease, but it's up in July. Looking for a new place is no fun, but I'm hoping we end up finding a place we love even more!

I hope your weeks are off to a great start!

adventures in maui: upcountry

You'd be surprised how much there is to do on an island. Matthew and I took a day off from the beach, as required by our sunburned backs {Matthew's more than mine!}, and headed to upcountry to explore. Unfortunately, there wasn't enough time to do everything, but we did make time to see the cutest goats, taste some fresh pineapple juice, and smell the lavender.

Favorite Spots in Upcountry

Casual Restaurants: La Provence {delicious French brunch}, T. Komoda Store and Bakery in Makawao {yummy stick donuts, cream puffs, and malasadas}, Ulupalakua Ranch Store and Grill {for the meat lovers}

If you've been to Maui before and have a favorite spot I didn't mention, feel free to leave it in a comment below!
There's always next time :)

look book: where lavender grows

One afternoon in Maui, after a long morning at the beach, Matthew and I decided to head to upcountry to explore. We heard about these gorgeous lavender fields in Kula and added it to our Must See list. The weather was cool and windy but we thoroughly enjoyed walking around the expansive property and looking out on the best views of the island. The countryside felt like a different place, with its hillsides covered with cows and bees swarming the flowers. Some parts definitely reminded me of California. This was a spontaneous outfit post {with only three items to list} but we couldn't resist the beautiful backdrop!
